Ah, National Reading Week begins for me!

 

I have seven libraries booked this week along with my regular

school assemblies.  Not to mention a strong Saturday with yet

another high-end Bar Mitzvah to cap it all off.

 

Carefully watching my time and staying on top of the things to

do this week is the only way I’ll get through.

 

I don’t know about you, but weeks like this always go so much

better for me when I’m totally prepared.

 

For instance, all of the shows are packed and loaded in the car

already.  All of the pre-show contacts have been made, the

driving directions are printed and loaded into the GPS for back-up. 

 

Experience has proved to me that I can actually enjoy a busy

week like this and get much more out of it simply by doing the

work ahead of time. 

 

For years I dreamed of weeks like this.  Driving from show to

show, booking other gigs on my cell phone between shows and

making lots of mula.

 

And then, I started booking massive amounts of gigs and totally

burned-out because I was simply frazzled.  I didn’t have a system

in place to take care of business while I was out performing.

 

That’s when things radically changed for me.

 

The way I saw it, I had two choices;

 

1)  Leave the dream of my lifetime and get out of magic forever,

or

 

2)  Re-design my entire operating system and start working

smarter, not harder.

 

It was really that black & white for me.  Stay in or get out.

 

Thank God, He gave me the inspiration and the desire to

re-design the act, the marketing and practically everything

I do.

 

Now I don’t know about you, but I got into this business because

I love it.  Magic is what I dream about.  It’s what I have always

considered my purpose in life and what I should be doing.

 

The idea of hating it and burning out scared me enough to make

some serious changes.  As hard as the set-up was, it was all SO

worth it.

 

I’m going to have fun this week.  I’ll do some kick-butt shows,

book tons more, share some insider secrets with my “Inner Circle”

friends on Wednesday night and wrap it up by acting in a skit at

church for the kids on Sunday.

 

This is the life and business I designed.  On purpose.

 

So this email is meant for you one, as a warning.  Beware of

burn-out.  Plan accordingly and enjoy yourself.

 

And two, as a word of advice from someone who’s in the trenches

with you.  Plan your business to work for you.  The people who

are the most successful in ANY field are the ones that work on

their business, NOT in their business!
