By the time you receive this I will be in the mountains

getting ready to hit the slopes.

I bought myself a new pair of skis for Christmas and I am

breaking them in today and then I’ll be locking myself in

the cabin, sitting by the fireplace and doing the REAL work.

That work, of course for those of you that know me, is my

semi-annual goal setting, strategy sessions and overall

temperature taking.

This is the most important work I do all year.  And I am

very serious about this. 

Without sounding too “heady” or motivational speakerish,

we do have the ability to design our own lives.  If you don’t

plan your life, someone will do it for you!

So today, I’m going to begin a mini goal and strategy session

with you.  Over the next few days, in honor of the New Year,

I will be sharing what has worked and hasn’t worked for me

in the past and where I’m heading this year.

It will be immensely valuable for al of us to consider and I

cannot recommend doing this type of work with your own

career highly enough.

Before we start, I just want to clear up a few potentially

confusing things on this end.

I move quickly.

When I make a decision there is not much time between

conception and implementation.  That is on purpose.

However, if you are not following me or you miss an email,

you may have missed a crucial part of what I’ve been

throwing your way recently.

If you haven’t noticed, I am on fire!  I am 110% committed

to bringing you the best in what’s really working out there

in the real world.  I know many of you are profiting mightily

from these resources.  And most cost absolutely nothing!

we’ve had.  The guests on each call were incredibly generous

and you should listen to them all, many times over.  Pick out

There was some confusion about the Cris Johnson seminar. 

We were unable to go “live” with this one because of our

crazy schedules, so Cris and I did it together one morning

and posted it for you to listen to whenever.  You did not miss

the call.  I recommend you check it out.

not looking hard enough or you’re just not ready.

I hope this clears up some of the confusion I know some of

you have been experiencing.  I know I move quickly but I

do not apologize.  Just hold on tight and watch the results

in all of our lives!

Back to today’s topic…

My first step in the goal process is to categorize them. 

There are different areas I want to achieve things and

different priorities assigned to each.

I used to have 4 or 5 areas a few years ago.  It grew to 7

for the past 3 years and this year I have added an eighth. 

This has been honed over years of doing this kind of work. 

It made me much more productive. 

These are highly personal, however.  Your categories will

be different than mine.  Your goals will be radically different. 

But it is a valuable resource to use when planning your attack

for the year.

And yes, they are in order of priority for me:

1)      Spiritual – What is my practice?

2)      Relational – Family, friends, clients and humanity

in general

3)      Financial – specific dollar amounts for earnings and

investments

4)      Professional – now we talk magic & speaking

career goals

5)      Physical – Body & energy

6)      Mental – What do I want to read & study to stay sharp?

7)      Environmental – Home, car, yard & other surroundings

8)      Fun –my recently added category that can easily be

pushed aside

So now I sit in front of the fireplace tonight with eight blank

pieces of paper and dream BIG!  Now is not the time for

editing, that will come later. 

What do I really want to achieve in these 8 areas of my life? 

Not what I think I can achieve, but what do I really want? 

An important distinction at this point!

I have some of this work already done in my head and some

of last year’s unachieved goals will re-surface.  Some have

changed and some others are no longer valid because of

“leap-frogging” beyond them already as a result of achieving

other things this year.

One of the biggest things for me is to not put any constraints

on it yet.  That will come later as I align all of them together

and look for discrepancies and contradictions.  More on that

tomorrow.
