Inside This Issue: My New Show and a VERY Cool New Give-Away Item!...
Dear
I thought we’d answer a bunch of your questions this week all in one shot. Many of you have been asking what I am doing in my new show for this season and today I’ll run down the whole thing for you.
I’ve also been using a new give-away item that is absolutely killing and I’ll share that with you too.
And yes, each week I will be doing a countdown to the big boot-camp in September.
This is going to be absolutely awesome and you should do everything you can to make sure you attend.
The dates are September 21-23 in Chicago and I would walk there if I had to. I’m not kidding!

Off to the show… ==========================================
The All-Purpose Magic Show:
This is a run down of what I’m doing this season in my shows.
The most powerful weapon in my arsenal is my all-purpose show. This can be performed anywhere and for virtually any children’s or family audience.
The beauty of the design of this is that it also fits my reading show with a few changes and I can alter it to different age groups when necessary. In the summer season, I am doing libraries, summer camps and preschools and with three different scripts and a few routine changes, I can have all three in one case. This is very important in the midst of the busy season!
The show runs between 45 & 50 minutes and then the kids come up to pet the bunny and get their prizes.
You will notice that there is a ton of magic in the show this year. It is very fast-paced and the average routine is 3-4 minutes long. I am purposely slamming them with a bunch of magic this year and it’s been the best received show I’ve ever produced.
You may also notice that it is not all “new” to me. There are certain effects that have become my “signature” routines and it’s difficult to cut them out because my clients want to see them. That’s fine by me and if you don’t have a signature effect, you should seriously consider getting one!
Please keep in mind that it may read a little flat in print. It’s hard to create the same excitement here as I can live. One of these days I’ll get around to putting it all on DVD for you.
Warm-Up : Miser’s Dream-I do this as folks are coming in or as we’re waiting for other groups to join us. It’s always a bunch of fun and certainly sets the stage for what’s going to happen.
Pre-Recorded Intro: This is an idea I got from Ken Scott. Very few of the folks that introduce us are professional emcee’s. As a matter of fact, most of them are terrible at it and it can put you in a position of having to climb out of an anti-climatic start at the beginning of your show.
I had a local celebrity do a voice-over for me. It’s adds instant credibility and is a very good intro that gets the audience clapping right off the bat.
Newspaper tear: This is one of my signature pieces. Throughout the patter I have weaved different control techniques and they don’t even know that I have just set them up. Very effective!
Needle Through Balloon: This is an audience volunteer bit that is absolutely hilarious! It’s loosely based on Michael Ammar’s Balloon Routine from “The Magic of…” The ending is a jaw-dropper! If I’m doing a preschool show, I substitute this for my sponge ball routine because it can scare the little guys.
The Thing: This is Bill Abbott’s new routine and is a great way to bring them down a bit after all the previous excitement.
Mis-Made Flag: Yeah, I know it’s very standard and kids see it all the time. However, I have been doing this for so long and have tweaked it so that it is the part of my show when the entire audience is tearing up with laughter. It follows the rule that Silly Billy said, your routine should be so much fun that you should be able to do it and then start it all over again because they want to see it all over. I never get, “I’ve seen that one before.”
Fantasy Magician: Ken Scott’s version where your arms are the kids as he does tricks. Very funny stuff!
Brief juggling bit: This is just a quick 5-ball juggle to “Suite Judy Blue Eyes.” It’s here simply as candy for the eyes.
Chair Suspension w/ Hobson’s Balloon Bag: Another Signature piece that I love performing. I didn’t always, but now it’s tweaked to amazement and fun! I don’t do this for preschool kids and just do the balloon bag stuff instead.
Rabbit from the Hat!: Yep, a real rabbit. I hint towards this throughout the show and it builds the tension just right and the kids explode at this point!
Multiplying Bottles: This is one that has the kids going crazy but it really amazes the adults. I purposely put this here to be the big finish because I want the adults (aka potential clients) to have this in their minds when they’re coming up afterwards for my business card.
Then all of the kids come up and get their prizes as they pet the bunny.
There are over 40 musical cues (I use a VSM) throughout and obviously there are many different transitions that tie all of it together. The key for me has always been to provide a really great time while demonstrating some really strong magic! It’s a very commercial concept!
Now as far as the prizes, I have always used give-aways at my shows. It’s a great control technique, it is an opening for reciprocity and it’s a killer way to get my contact info in many hands.
You probably already know that I recommend it highly.
This year I wanted to come up with something different and I didn’t want to share it with you until I fully tested it. Well, I’ve been using these for over 100 shows already this season and I have to admit that they are pulling better than the Mystery Dollars.

This stuff is awesome! It is loaded with killer tips and ideas from someone who makes a living doing school shows. I don’t know why I didn’t already have this but I enthusiastically recommend it!:
