Inside This Issue:  Keeping Your Tan Lines…

Dear

We’re back with yet another installment of our weekly

newsletter.

Only 2 Days Left!!!

I am so excited to see all of you in Chicago this weekend.

The presenters are going to be amazing and I’ll be sharing

lots and lots with you next week about it.  Make sure you

check your inbox consistently for the next month or two.

I talked with many of the presenters and this is going to

be explosive stuff!

Jack tells me he can fit in one or two more.  Will you be there?

all.  I know it seems “too good to be true”, but it really is legit

and something you may want to act on right away:

Keeping your tan line…

Summer is gone and my little bit of tan is almost gone with it.

I have that Irish skin that doesn’t stay any color than white

for very long.

So what’s this got to do with marketing and booking more

shows?

Quite a bit actually…

There is a saying in the public speaking business about

“keeping your tan.”  The idea is that most folks go to

seminars or business meetings and get all fired-up

afterwards and are going to go out and change the world.

It’s an awesome feeling that I’m sure we have all

experienced.

Then you get home and “life” happens.  All of that great

stuff you just learned quickly fades and you are right back

to where you started.

You lose your tan.

So have do you keep the momentum going after attending

a great seminar, reading a great book or taking some sort

of class or course?

I know many of us will be in Chicago this weekend and

many others are going on the Barry Mitchell cruise that

today seems like a great time to offer a few tips to quickly

and easily apply all of the great information we receive

through these sources:

1)  Mind Map your notes-  It’s very important to take notes

at these events so you can relive the experience later.

Instead of just taking regular list-type notes, I use

mind-mapping to document my experiences and have

found them incredibly useful.

I use this process for planning new shows, new marketing

campaigns and almost everything I create.

Yanik Silver just released a wonderful video about the

whole process that you should really check out. It’s not an

affiliate link and well worth looking at.

2)  Set an action plan IMMEDIATELY afterwards!!!

This is Huge and a step most people skip.

Directly after any presentation or even after reading a

good book, I make an action plan on how and exactly

when I’m going to implement the ideas I just received.

Highlighter in hand, I review the information and emphasize

the points that are most relevant to me.  This goes onto a

“task list” and is prioritized after the event or during my

weekly strategy sessions (Sunday nights).

I just looked over this list from Dave Dee’s Boot-Camp

over four years ago and almost everything from that list

is part of my normal system of operation.  Had I not had

a plan, all of this great stuff that continues to make me

money would be lost forever.

3)  Do something immediately – This will depend on your

priorities, of course, but you must implement something

now.  If you wait until tomorrow, life will happen and you

may never get to it.

Massive action and quick implementation have always

been huge keys to all of my successes!

I can guarantee you that on the plane on Sunday afternoon

I will be making phone calls and sending emails to set into

motion what I learned over the weekend!

I will have made commitments and made myself accountable

to others about what I’m going to do.  This way I have no

choice.  I have to do it!

4)  Take advantage of multi-media resources – We all learn

differently.  Some of us are visual people, some are auditory

and others are kinesthetic.  No matter what your primary

way is, we all use ALL of them at varying degrees.

In addition to mind-mapping, I also use a small voice recorder

to capture thoughts and experiences.  I can listen to this later

and let the learning happen while I’m doing other things.

Dan Kennedy has a wonderful technique I use all the time

and suggests that we listen to audio tape programs at least

30 times to fully absorb the information.  This may seem

excessive, but it doesn’t have to be “active” listening.

I have a CD playing in the background right now.

You can download files to your I-Pod and listen while you

work-out.  And, of course, you should be listening in your

car to and from shows.

5)  And last but certainly not least – Just Do It!  Yes, this is

Nike’s much used and abused slogan-but it certainly applies

here.

I am so sick of people that have all of the courses, go to all

of the events, read all the books and still don’t do anything.

And what really makes me mad is they are the folks that say,

 “This stuff doesn’t work.”  Uhgggg!

I am reminded of a very good friend of mine.  He is a

wonderful magician and a wonderful guy.  He’s my “go-to”

guy when it comes to knowledge in magic (technique and

performance).

One day we were sitting in his study/magic room and he

was asking me how the heck I booked so many shows.

He’s great performer, yet he only does a couple shows a

month.  He desperately wants to be full-time, but he has to

keep his day job and dreams of magic the entire time he’s

there.  “Quiet lives of desperation,” to use a quote here.

Inappropriately, I began to laugh.  It wasn’t on purpose and

I quickly apologized.  But here was the scene from where I

sat:

He is pouring out his soul to me and really whining about

his sad state of affairs.  Very honestly.  While he’s telling

me all of this, I’m looking at him sitting in front of his

bookshelf.

It is a library to envy with magic books from over the ages.

Right over his head was a copy of Dave Dee’s breakthrough

marketing for magicians system and my Children’s

Entertainer course.  On each of them was about an inch of

dust.  I had no choice but to laugh.

Now I’m not saying that Dave and my books are the be all

and end all of marketing for magicians by any stretch.

However, at that point, what was contained in those two

manuals was exactly how I was booking over 50 shows a

month consistently.

My friend had all of the information, he just wasn’t using it.

What a waste.

You’ll be happy to know that he did take my advise and is

doing very well now with his magic career.  He retired from

his “real job” and is a full-time, under-the-radar magician

now.  It’s very cool.

So <first>, Just Do It!
