That’s the best way I can describe the experience at Jack

Turk’s Magic Marketing Boot-Camp.  What a great time.

 

The speakers shared more than any other boot-camp I’ve

ever been to and I would HIGHLY recommend that you

snatch-up the CD’s when they become available.

 So, where do I begin?  I have a notebook jam-packed with

notes from the weekend.  I will be sharing these with you

throughout the next few weeks and I would certainly make

sure you stay tuned.

The biggest thing I took away from this weekend has got

to be working smarter rather than harder.

 

Almost every speaker, including me, talked about systems. 

Making your business as automated as possible.  That’s

what my “System Training” is all about.  But even with a

complete business plan and operational manual in place,

it’s very easy to fall into what I call – “The Entrepreneur’s

Trap!”

 

This is a trap we all fall into from time to time and

Sometimes, more often than not.  The ever present feeling

that we can and should be doing it all.

 

And yes, I am telling on myself here.  I am guilty as charged.

 

Whenever we perform a task that can be performed by an

hourly employee just as well, we switch from entrepreneur

to employee.

 

We must concentrate and perform only the tasks that are

most profitable for our business as a whole. 

 

And for us magicians, that’s marketing, creating and

performing – ONLY!

 

Here’s a great case in point; on Thursday of last week I was

the perfect example of what Zig Ziglar talks about in all of

his talks.  We always get so much more done the day before

vacation.  We are more goal oriented than normal and have

a stringent deadline. 

 

Well, I was booking shows, packing for the weekend, making

phone calls, playing with the kids and anything else you can

imagine that needed to be done before I headed off.

 

Now some of these things absolutely needed to be done by

me.  Playing with the kids cannot be delegated :) and never

will be.  But do I really need to be doing all of my booking

personally?  Do I really need  to be making arrangements

for transportation to the airport?  Probably not.

 

It all came crystal clear for me on Friday morning when I

was simultaneously typing contracts and booking more shows

(my school mailing is kicking butt!) that I realized I had

stuck myself into an hourly position. 

 

Think about it – I hired myself to be the CEO of my

corporation and then demoted myself to secretary! 

 

Huh? 

 

What’s up with that?

 

How often do you find yourself in the same position? 

So swamped by the day-to-day operations that you have no

time for the important tasks like strategic planning and

creating new and better shows (i.e.-product).

 

I am reminded of Stephen Covey’s wonderful work, “The

Seven Habits of Highly Successful People.”  He talks about

the four different quadrants that people spend their time in

and that we should stay in Quadrant II where we “see

through the lens of importance rather than urgency” as

much as possible.  That’s where the profit and pay-off is.

 

Now I am blessed to have developed a System that keeps

me on track.  Keeps me centered on what’s really important. 

But I too can get sucked into the grind and that is just plain

ineffective.

 

Here’s what I’m going to do about it…I am fighting my

inner ego and hiring an assistant this week.  I talked with

many of my friends in Chicago about it and it is past due.

 

I don’t know where you are in your particular career, of

course, but what can you do to make your life easier and

concentrate on the things that really make a difference in

your business?

For automating your online business, there is no better source

than David Farr’s Amazing System.  I have used this since

he came out with it and use it literally everyday.  It makes

life so easy and now I’ll be able to add his “Virtual Assistant”

auto-responders to have my assistant do the hourly work like

following-up and typing.

And finally, look into how I operate on a daily basis.  Sure,

this has been my self-confessional email to you.  And I

know you’ll keep me accountable which is why I’m doing

this. 

 

But it is only because I have a System that I’m able to be

in a place where I have to hire an assistant! 

 

Yes, it’s a “High-Class” problem!
